FloxisBot

What FloxisBot is

FloxisBot is the crawler of Floxis, an advertising exchange. It checks that ad inventory is authorised by its publisher, as the IAB Tech Lab ads.txt, app-ads.txt and sellers.json standards require of every exchange.

It identifies itself with this user agent:

Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; FloxisBot/1.0; +https://floxis.tech/bot)

What it fetches

  • /ads.txt and /app-ads.txt on root domains that send us ad requests, plus app developer domains listed in app stores.
  • /sellers.json on domains named in ads.txt files.
  • The home page of sites and app-store listing pages, to read the site title, language and privacy-policy link.

It doesn't index content, follow arbitrary links, or submit forms.

How often

  • Files on sites with active traffic: about once a day.
  • Other files: about once a week.
  • Home pages and store listings: every few days for sites with active traffic, otherwise about once a month.
  • New sites: when they first appear.

How it behaves

  • When a site keeps refusing or rate-limiting requests, it waits longer between attempts, from one hour up to several days, and never sooner than the site's Retry-After.
  • It follows at most 3 redirects, as the ads.txt spec allows.
  • It keeps the last good copy of a file when a fetch fails.
